Getting into the City Centre

Take a left onto the main road (Bootham) and walk towards Bootham Bar

There has been a gateway here for nearly 2000 years – Bootham Bar is on the site of one of the four main entrances to the Roman fortress. The archway itself dates back to the 11th century.

Local shop/convenience store

There is a Sainsbury’s local just opposite the apartment and a fabulous coffee shop on the main road called NorthSouth.

Dining

The vibrant city of York offers a vast range of fantastic places to eat. With so many options for breakfast, brunch, lunch or evening dining on our doorstep, we feel that the choice should be yours. But we are happy to help you with recommendations to suit your taste.

You can also check out our website with our top places to go at

 www.violethomes.co.uk

Heating

The apartment is heated by underfloor heating and is very energy efficient, it retains heat and therefore, an ambient temperature will be reached by setting the thermostat to 21/22°.

If you do require it any warmer, we kindly ask that before you depart it is returned  to 21/22°.

Many Thanks

To adjust the heating please use the control panel located next to the kitchen window. Simply turn the knob up or down to achieve the desired temperature.

Please do not adjust the settings on the boiler or the individual heating controls in the boiler cupboard.

We respectfully ask that you consider the environment and do not overheat the apartment when not occupied.

Bathroom ventilation

Please use the main lights in the bathroom when showering to enable the extractor fan to clear the steam. The fan is on a timer which will switch off after 10 minutes.

Sliding balcony doors

Ensure the handle is at an angle whilst closing the door.

Then once the door is shut and tight to the frame.

Move the handle to a vertical position.

This will ensure the door is locked.

For fire safety we don’t recommend using the keys or thumb locks to double lock the doors. Once the handle is in the vertical position the unit is secure.

For bedroom doors out to balcony and windows.

The horizontal position opens the door at the top only allowing ventilation.

The upright position allows door to fully open.

The downwards position locks the door.

Oven

Use the round rotary selector to change the operating modes and adjustment values shown in the display.

Please find the complete instructions in the back of the manual.

Bathroom smells

The shower traps in the apartments can become loose and if they do become loose, they don’t stop the smells coming up from the pipes.

If you find this issue, please let us know and we can pop over and push them down to prevent any unpleasant odours.

Hob

The main switch is used to switch the hob on and off.

To switch on: Touch the circle with the line through the middle symbol.

An audible signal sounds.

This also switches off the hob.

The indicators next to the main switch and the hotplate indicators ‘0’ light up. The hob is ready to use.

Choose your desired hotplate from the symbols. Then select the required heat setting.

Please find full instructions in the back of this manual.

Extractor Fan

When cooking on the hob, please switch on the extractor fan – the switch is behind the kettle in the kitchen.

Kitchen Tap

The kitchen tap has just one dial – for hot water keep turning the dial it will go from cold through to warm, through to hot.

Dishwasher

To run an economy cycle, please press the buttons labelled 1 to 4 in order.

Washer dryer

Determine the programme suitable for the type of laundry and select the function with the programme selection knob.

Please see the manual at the end of the pack for more information on washing and drying programs.

Tea and coffee

Please help yourself to tea, instant coffee and sugar during your stay. If you prefer real coffee, there is also a coffee machine, which uses Lavazza A Modo Mia capsules, available from most supermarkets.

The iron is in the cupboard under the sink and the ironing board can be found under the ottoman bed in the front bedroom. To access this, pull up the frame that the mattress sits on at the end of the bed.

Fans

Should you require them, there are two cooling fans located in the cupboard on the kitchen island by the bar stools.

Hairdryer

There are 2 hairdryers, located in the bedside drawers in each bedroom.

Soundbar

To connect to the Sonos speaker you need to be connected to the Wi-Fi and to have the Sonos app downloaded. Open the app and click ‘Connect’. Once connected, you will be able to play music from your streaming service.

TV

The apartment includes a Samsung SMART QLED TV with remote control. It is operated using the remote control. Please note that the digital channels 101 to 105 do not always function due to poor reception in the York area. The main BBC, ITV and Channel 4 channels can be found on 001 to 004 as an alternative.

If you have your own Netflix, Amazon Prime, Now TV, Disney + etc account you will be able to log in and stream your choice of viewing.
