Getting around

Please feel free to take the maps provided to help you explore, but the beauty of York is to just get lost in all the snickets, alleys and cobbled streets!

To get into town:

Take a right on to Nunnery Lane and cross over the pedestrian crossings (walking towards the city walls, here you can get onto the city wall walk – a circular walk around the perimeter of the old city, these walls date back to the Roman times)

Then walk ahead over Skeldergate bridge (over the river Ouse- the 6th longest river in the U.K.) and either down by the river front or cross over towards Cliffords tower (from the top of the top you will find panoramic views. It is almost all that remains of York Castle built by William the Conqueror) and into the Coppergate centre, follow this through into town.

There is also the brilliant ‘Bishy Road’ which is an award winning high street with fabulous independent shops, bars and cafes.

Just take a right on to Nunnery Lane and right again.

Take a look at: www.visityork.org.uk for local attractions, restaurants and local places of interest
