Please read through the information below, which has been put together to help make your stay more enjoyable and stress free.

Should you need any further details, please let us know, we will be more than happy to help!

Getting around

Please feel free to take the maps provided on the shelves to help you explore, but the beauty of York is to just get lost in all the snickets, alleys and cobbled streets!

There’s a couple of ways to get into the heart of the city… First route- come out of Queen Street, turn right and walk up to the traffic lights, cross over to the left and you will see Micklegate Bar.

(Micklegate Bar was the most important of York’s four main medieval gateways and the focus for grand events. The name comes from ‘Micklelith’, meaning great street.)

Walk down the hill and over the bridge (over the river Ouse- the 6th longest river in the U.K.) and you are in the city centre.

Alternatively, there are steps leading up the Micklegate Bar and on to the historic city walls (a circular walk around the perimeter of the old city, these walls date back to the Roman times)

Or if you turn left out of Queen Street and past the train station, follow the road around and you will come to another bridge over the river where you will see the famous York Minster in front of you. This route will take you past museum gardens where you can drop down on the river the perfect start for a river walk.

Take a look at: www.visityork.org.uk for local attractions, restaurants and local places of interest

Car parking

Free parking in York is like gold dust, we are lucky enough to have a permit to allow you to park on the road outside Queen street for free during your stay by putting the permits on your dash board and parking in the designated parking bays.

However if you have a second car I would recommend the following car parks which are all within a 2 minute walk of the property.

The closest is NCP carpark just at the bottom of Queen Street

https://www.ncp.co.uk/find-a-car-park/car-parks/york-queen-street/

Nunnery Lane car park

https://www.york.gov.uk/directory_record/505/nunnery_lane_car_park_-yo23_1aa

The train station also has its own long stay car park which is very reasonable at weekends.

You will find the parking pass on the bar in the kitchen when you arrive, please remember to pop it back when you depart.

Keys

There is no need for a key, just use the unique 4 digit code we gave you throughout your stay. It will be deactivated at 11am on the day of your departure, so please let us  know if you need to gain access to the house after this time.

There is a back door key hanging up just to the left of the door next to the pipes.

Please ensure the black door is locked before you leave the house.

Tea & Coffee

Please help yourself to tea and coffee provided. The copper kettle needs to be heated on the stove, this can take a little while or there is an electric kettle in the cupboard for a more speedy approach!

Health and safety

Incase of a fire: Please ensure everyone leaves the property promptly and safely, closing any internal doors on the way out, and call the fire service on ‘999’

Respect our neighbours

We kindly ask that you don’t use the garden after 11pm.

Trouble shooting

Please note the ‘smoke alarm’ in the kitchen is not a smoke alarm it is a heat detector. If cooking has caused the alarm to go off it is likely to be the smoke alarm in the front/ back hall way sounding. Open the front or back door to dissipate the smoke, which will stop the alarm.

The work tops are real oak so can be marked easily. Please do not place any hot pans directly on the wood without a mat and any spills are wiped up straight away to avoid staining.

Dishwasher

The power/on button with flash blue while looking for the device.

When the light shows a steady blue light it is connected to the device.

Your phone/device must be with 1 meter of the speaker.

When turned on, SoundCore will automatically connect to the last connected device if available. If not, SoundCore will enter pairing mode.

Hair dryer

There is a hair dryer for you to use in the  upstairs bathroom in a basket on the shelf behind the toilet.

Iron and ironing board

You will find this in the wardrobe in the front bedroom.

Heating

We have set the heating to come on and off throughout the day to ensure the house is lovely and warm, depending on the time of year. So there shouldn’t be any need to set the temperature, however if you do need to adjust it: There is a Nest (silver circular dial) thermostat under the kitchen shelf, just turn this to the right to increase the temperature, and left to decrease it.

Eating in

We have extended the table so it can seat 8 guests, there are 2 extra chairs in the cupboard behind the door in the dining room if you would prefer to use them rather than the bench.

Maintenance

If you notice anything that needs our attention please do not hesitate to let us know.

Knick Knacks

A lot of the nick knacks around the house were found while renovating, for example the beer can and honey pot we found in the cellar celling from when the house was originally built!

Local shop/convenience store

If you need a quick stock up there is a Sainsbury’s local just around the corner. Turn right out of the house then right again at the traffic lights on to Blossom Street and follow the road about 150m.

Cafes and Cake!

If it’s a trendy coffee you’re after taking a left at the traffic lights go under the walls onto Mickelgate and there’s lots of independent cafes with fabulous tea, coffee and cakes to win you over!
